The Syntho-ShieldTM system is comprised of two components, Syntho-Glass® for mechanical and corrosion abilities as well as a Petrolatum Tape undercoating for long term corrosion protection. The Petrolatum Tape under coating is composed of a non-woven synthetic fabric carrier, fully impregnated with a neutral compound based on saturated petrolatum and inert siliceous fillers. The tapes are designed to provide long term corrosion protection to pipes, flanges, valves, and related surfaces. This unique protective coating system has been designed as an effective solution to corrosion, insulation, and waterproofing problems. Syntho-Glass, a fiberglass cloth impregnated with a water activated resin, is used as a protective outer wrap. Syntho-Shield is an innovative system that offers exceptional mechanical and impact strength for under water, under ground and above ground corrosion protection coating applications. For above ground applications requiring UV protection, Syntho-Glass®UV is recommended.

Additional information

Surface preparation:

Surface preparation and profiling shall promote continuous intimate contact between the CFRP system and pipe by providing a clean, smooth, and circumferential surface. Surface preparation shall be in accordance with SSPC-SP1 “Solvent Cleaning” and SSPC-SP10 / NACE 2 “Near White Blast Cleaning” 1-3 mil surface roughness (25-75 microns). If an exist-ing coating is present, roughen to degloss. The composite repair system is a bond -critical composite repair system requiring a strong adhesive bond between the clean pipe and the composite system.

Installation:

Installation of the composite System shall be performed by NRI qualified applicators only. Surface preparation, mixing of epoxy, and installation of the system are to be in accordance with NRI’s composite Installation Guide, latest revision. Quality control inspection during and after installation of the composite system shall be performed per NRI’s Installation Validation Procedure: Quality Control Records, latest revision.

Storage conditions:

Store in a cool, shaded area at an ambient temperature of 35ºC.
